63% of Americans are overweight and 31% are obese with a BMI in excess of 30.0. Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past two decades and according to the U.S. Surgeon General obesity is responsible for 300,000 deaths every year. Research also shows that severe obesity may be harder on men than on women.

Apparently the shape of your body determines your risk for certain diseases. There are three common male body shapes, banana, apple, and pear. An apple body shape puts men at the highest risk for disease, mainly because the weight is being held around the waist, which is more common in men. Women tend to carry more of their weight around the hips, thighs and buttocks also known as a pear shape.

Overall, people who have an apple shape are at a higher risk for a number of conditions known as the metabolic syndrome. Which includes high blood glucose, high blood pressure and dyslipodemia. The problem with these conditions is that, they are all risk factors for coronary heart disease. Which is why it is so important for people who do have an apple shape to do what they can to reduce it. Including, weight loss and exercise. Loosing the waist weight will decrease the risk for many of these issues and for heart disease as well as prevent the occurrence of new problems.

How do you determine if you are at a higher risk for these conditions?

• First of all are you over your normal body weight?

• Do you know your BMI? (BMI is body mass index and it depends on your height, weight and usually your age.) You can go to This Site to determine your BMI.

• When you gain weight do you have to buy new pants?

• Does it feel like you carry most of your weight in your mid area?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are likely to have an apple body shape.

The dietary issues that are important for women are also important for men. It gets down to the basics of eating a healthy diet. In particular, however, men tend to develop cardiovascular disease about a decade earlier than women. So they should pay attention to the dietary factors that influence the risk for cardiovascular disease. Eating a diet that’s low in saturated and trans fats and high in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans and other plant products is the best way to help your heart.

How Much Alcohol Is Okay To Drink

In general, moderate consumption of alcohol is associated with reduced risk of dying, mainly from a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. Guidelines say that men can consume up to two drinks of alcohol per day; however, I don’t think it’s a good idea to consume alcohol everyday. It can turn into a habit, and sometimes habits can turn into problems. In addition, no one intends to have a problem with alcohol; that can develop over time. If someone doesn’t drink alcohol, there are no guidelines to take up drinking, but for people who do drink alcohol, moderate consumption may lead to a reduced risk of dying, particularly from heart disease.

Sexual Health

Men’s sexual health is an important aspect of men’s health, whether you’re trying to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases or you’re worried about erectile dysfunction or other men’s sexual health problems.

For some men, worries about penis size top the list of men’s sexual health concerns. However, you’re probably more normal than you think — and penis-enlargement products and procedures aren’t likely to be effective. If your men’s sexual health concerns include fertility, make sure you’re doing all you can to boost your sperm count and quality. Know what’s hazardous to sperm, and how to make sure your sperm are top performers.

As you get older, understand common changes in men’s sexual health — and how to maintain a healthy and enjoyable sex life at any age.
